Tax information is available in the Sales Tax Summary report in InvoiceOwl.
How to open the Sales Tax Summary
- Click Reports in the left sidebar.
- Click Sales Tax Summary from the All Reports list.
What tax information is shown
At the top, summary cards show:
- Total Taxable Sales -- the total value of sales that had taxes applied.
- Total Tax Collected -- the total tax amount collected.
- Tax Types -- the number of different taxes in use.
Below the summary, a table lists each tax with these columns:
- Tax Name -- the name of the tax (for example, "State Sales Tax").
- Rate -- the tax percentage.
- Type -- whether the tax is Exclusive (added on top of the price) or Inclusive (already included in the price).
- Invoices -- the number of invoices this tax appeared on.
- Taxable Sales -- the total pre-tax sales amount.
- Tax Collected -- the total tax amount collected for this tax.
Accounting method
You can switch between two accounting methods using the toggle at the top:
- Accrual Basis -- tax is reported when invoices are issued. This includes both unpaid and paid invoices, filtered by invoice date.
- Cash Basis -- tax is reported when invoices are fully paid. Only paid invoices are included, filtered by payment date.
Filtering by date range
Use the date range picker to choose from This Month, Last Month, This Quarter, Last Quarter, This Year, Last Year, or a Custom date range.
