Connect Stripe account

Connect your Stripe account to let clients pay invoices online with a credit card or bank transfer. Here is how to set it up.

How to connect Stripe

  1. Click Settings in the left sidebar.
  2. Click Payment Processing.
  3. Under the Stripe Connect section, click the Connect with Stripe button.
  4. You will be taken to Stripe's website to create or link your account.
  5. Follow Stripe's steps to complete the setup (see details below).
  6. When finished, Stripe sends you back to InvoiceOwl automatically.

What Stripe asks for during setup

Stripe uses an Express onboarding flow. They will ask you to provide:

  • Business information -- your business address and type of business (sole proprietor, LLC, etc.)
  • Personal details -- your legal name, email, and date of birth
  • Business details -- a business website or social media profile, and a short description of what you do
  • Bank account details -- where Stripe should send your payouts (routing number and account number)
  • Statement descriptor -- the business name your clients will see on their card statements

If setup is incomplete

If you started the Stripe setup but did not finish, you will see a yellow Setup Incomplete message on the Payment Processing page. Click Continue Setup to pick up where you left off.

If you already finished on Stripe's side but InvoiceOwl still shows incomplete, click the refresh button next to Continue Setup to sync the status.

After connecting

Once connected, you will see a green Stripe Connected checkmark. Your account is ready to accept payments.

You can also choose which payment methods are enabled by default on new invoices and quotes:

  • Credit/Debit Card -- accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express
  • ACH Bank Transfer -- accepts direct bank transfers (lower fees)

Use the toggles under Default Payment Methods on the Payment Processing page to turn these on or off.

Managing your Stripe account

Click Open Stripe Dashboard on the Payment Processing page to go directly to your Stripe account. From there you can view transactions, update bank details, and manage your payout schedule.

On the Mobile App

You can connect your Stripe account directly from your phone:

  1. Tap the More tab.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Payment Processing.
  4. Tap Start Accepting Payments to begin the Stripe setup. You will be guided through Stripe's onboarding in an in-app browser.

If you started the setup but did not finish, the screen shows a yellow Setup Incomplete status. Tap Continue Setup to pick up where you left off.

Once connected, you will see a green Connected status with your Stripe account details. From there you can:

  • Tap Open Stripe Dashboard to manage your Stripe account.
  • Toggle Credit/Debit Card and ACH Bank Transfer on or off under Default Payment Methods.
